Ad-network documentation gates the reward on ad completion

Unity's rewarded-video and mediation docs show the unlock is conditional on completion, not on starting the ad.

The figure or the record

Inside a coin-funded drama app, the on-ramp to a free episode is often a rewarded video: watch an advertisement, receive a unit of in-app currency. Unity's own developer documentation for its ad network, now folded into a product called Unity Ads Monetization, tells publishers they "can implement rewarded video ads to build a more robust game economy while earning revenue for your business." The Android implementation guide specifies the mechanism precisely: an app loads the ad, shows it, and only grants the reward inside a completion callback that reports whether the user reached the end of the clip. Unity's mediation product, LevelPlay, is described on the same documentation site as software that will "mediate ad networks" on a publisher's behalf, all as retrieved on 16 September 2026.

What the documents establish

The Android guide is explicit that a reward must be tied to the show-complete callback's result: developers should "use the...listener callback method's...result to check if the user finished watching the ad and should be rewarded." If the completion state is anything other than finished, the documentation instructs the developer not to grant the reward. That is a mechanical, code-level requirement, not a marketing description, and it establishes that the ad network's own rules make the exchange conditional rather than automatic: watching is necessary, but full completion is the specific outcome the SDK checks for before confirming payout of the reward.

Scope and caveats

These pages describe the technical contract between a publisher's app and Unity's SDK; they say nothing about what price an advertiser pays for the impression, what share of that price Unity keeps as a mediation or network fee, or how much reaches the app that hosted the ad. LevelPlay's own page gives no waterfall or bidding detail beyond naming the function, and developer documentation, like any living reference, can change without carrying a publication date, so this reading is anchored to the retrieval date rather than a historical release.

What to watch

Editorially, the number worth tracking is not the reward mechanic but the effective cost per completed view once a network's fee is netted out; publishers rarely disclose that split, and no document opened here states it for any short-drama app specifically.

  • What eCPM or fill rate does a given ad network report for rewarded placements inside drama apps specifically, as opposed to games in general?
  • Does the completion requirement in the SDK match what the app tells the viewer before the ad starts, or does the promised reward sometimes exceed what the callback delivers?
  • How much of the advertiser's spend on a rewarded impression is retained by the mediation layer before it reaches the publisher showing the ad?

What the documentation supports is a description of mechanism: a gated exchange verified by software, not a number. Any claim about how much a rewarded ad is actually worth to a drama app has to come from a different kind of document than the ones cited here.
