Omdia's 2025 number is most useful as a broad modeled market frame, especially for China and payment mix, not as a substitute for storefront measurement.
The model
On October 14, 2025, Omdia projected that global microdrama revenue would reach $11 billion during 2025. It defined the format as short serialized stories typically around two to three minutes per episode. The release also said that more than 60% of the modeled global revenue would come from subscription or transactional payment, often after a free introductory offer. This is a market estimate across a broader commercial system, not a count of a particular app-store transaction stream.
Geography explains the size
Omdia attributed 83% of its 2025 total to China and named the United States as the leading international market, followed by Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and Thailand. That geography is important because the word 'global' otherwise obscures the category's center of gravity. A business that sells mainly outside China can be strategically important while representing a small part of this modeled global number.
Omdia compared its projected 2025 total with a $5.8 billion FAST estimate. That is a cross-category analyst comparison, not evidence that the two services share identical revenue definitions, distribution channels or cost bases. It is most helpful as an indication of Omdia's view of scale rather than an operating benchmark for a single app.
Do not splice the series
A channel estimate and a whole-market model can coexist without contradiction. Before putting them on one growth chart, ask whether they include the same countries, payment routes, app set and time period. A difference in coverage is not evidence that one analyst discovered missing revenue in the other's data.
We label this as an analyst market model, preserving its date and geography. For an operator, a more useful exercise is to define the reachable segment: the countries, languages and payment methods the product can actually serve. A large worldwide estimate does not by itself describe the opportunity available to a new entrant. The public release does not expose the full model, so an external reader cannot reproduce the estimate from first principles.
